community update:
resource collaborative
The Resource Collaborative is a monthly gathering of community leaders who come together to share updates, learn about services, and strengthen how families are connected to support.
More than 50 organizations take part, including TPD, USF, Hillsborough County Public Schools, The Children’s Board, United Way Suncoast, Frameworks, Easterseals, the CDC of Tampa, and many other nonprofits and agencies serving the community.
This kind of collaboration helps organizations stay informed about each other’s work and the resources available to families. That shared knowledge makes referrals more clear, more timely, and more effective.
January’s meeting was especially meaningful. It was the first large group event hosted at TRIBE since our building was repaired after hurricane damage. We have been part of the Collaborative for years, and we were glad to welcome everyone back into the space.
Past gatherings have been hosted by Feeding Tampa Bay, Broward Elementary, the YMCA, and The Skills Center. The Collaborative focuses on families living in the 33603, 33604, and 33610 zip codes, where coordination across organizations makes a lasting impact.

Program highlight:
junk journaling
Last week, we hosted our first Junk Journaling session at TRIBE. It was nice to gather and create, and a good reminder of why these kinds of creative spaces matter.
Using scraps, found paper, and everyday materials, everyone had the chance to make something without pressure or expectations. Some came with a plan, while others just played and saw what happened.
The beauty of Junk Journaling is that it’s not about the final result. It’s about slowing down, working with your hands, and being together.

Join us monday for junk Journaling
Join us for Mindful Mess, a monthly Monday night junk journaling session at TRIBE.
This women-centered creative space is open to teens and adults and focuses on cutting, layering, collaging, and visual journaling using everyday materials.
Led by TRIBE volunteers Cindi and Hasty, with all materials provided.
Donations are welcome and support TRIBE programming.
Register in advance if you can. Drop-ins are also welcome.

Volunteers urgently needed in our community closet
The need for children’s clothing in our community continues to grow, and right now it exceeds our ability to keep the closet sorted and ready for families.
When the closet is not organized, it directly affects how quickly and respectfully families can access what they need. Volunteer support helps keep clothing accessible, sizes easy to find, and the space welcoming and dignified.
If you are able to help with sorting, organizing, and resetting the closet, your time would make an immediate difference.
Save the date: Gasparilla Music Festival volunteer opportunity
TRIBE will be participating in the Gasparilla Music Festival on Friday, April 10. We will be looking for volunteers to help staff beverage tents during the event.
This is a fun, high energy way to support TRIBE, meet new people, and be part of a major local festival. Volunteers must be 21 or older, and shifts will take place in the early evening.
If you are interested, let us know and we will follow up with more details closer to April.

Program Update: Broward Elementary Holiday Shop
The Broward Elementary Holiday Shop is something we work on all year long. Month by month, we collect donated items, knowing that eventually, they’ll come together to create a special experience for students during the holiday season.
When it’s time, our team spends the week at Broward setting up the shop and welcoming students as they choose gifts for their families using a mix of PAWS bucks and their own money. Every gift is wrapped with care so they can take home something meaningful and ready to give.
What families experience in a single moment is the result of months of quiet planning and hands-on effort. Like so much of what we do, it’s thoughtful, behind the scenes, and full of heart.

Volunteer with TRIBE: Community Closet Support
Giving your time makes a real impact. Our Community Closet relies on behind-the-scenes help to stay organized and ready for families, and we’re currently looking for volunteers to assist with folding, sorting, and organizing clothing.
It may be quiet work, but it matters. A clean, welcoming space helps families move through the closet with dignity and ease, and it allows our team to stay focused on providing direct support.
You don’t need any special skills, and even one hour of your time can make a difference.
new year updates
As we begin the new year, we wanted to share a clear update on where things stand at TRIBE.
Over the past year, hurricane damage forced us to pause some programs while we focused on repairing and stabilizing the building. Since then, the roof and ceiling have been repaired, new carpet has been installed throughout the entire facility, and we’ve taken time to reorganize the space so it can safely support families again.
Even during this period, our commitment to the community never stopped. The Community Closet has been busier than ever, and we’ve continued meeting our commitments to families and local schools while doing this work behind the scenes.
As we move into 2026, we’re beginning to bring programs back thoughtfully and one at a time. This week, we’re sharing an update about one program that reflects where we’re headed next, and what restarting programming looks like in practice right now.
At the same time, we’re at a point where reopening programs depends on financial support.
Before we can fully restart and expand offerings, we need funds to cover the essentials that make this work possible such as staffing time, program supplies, insurance, replacement equipment, and upcoming reopening projects.
If you’re able, we’re asking you to consider making a $26 donation to help us start 2026 strong.
A gift of $26 may feel modest, but together these donations are what allow TRIBE to reopen programs, keep the Community Closet accessible, and remain a steady, welcoming place for families who rely on us.
If giving isn’t possible right now, staying connected, sharing our updates, and being part of this community still matters more than you know.
As January unfolds, we’ll continue sharing updates about Community Closet availability, volunteer opportunities, and additional programs as they come back online.
We’re grateful for this community and for the support that makes this work possible.
Sewing is back at tribe
Sewing is officially returning to TRIBE through a partnership with The Sewist Society, a local nonprofit focused on textile reuse and community-based skill sharing.
This collaboration brings back sewing classes, workshops, and events to our space, continuing the tradition of hands-on learning at TRIBE.
The Sewist Society hosted their first Stitch & Bitch meetup here in December, and it’s now a monthly gathering:
🧵 Stitch & Bitch at TRIBE
Monday, January 12
6:00–9:00pm
Every second Monday of the month
Additional sewing programs will be announced soon as we build out the new calendar.
TRIBE'S REPAIRS ARE OFFICIALLY COMPLETE
Repairs at TRIBE are complete and our building is finally turning a corner. The ceiling work is done, new carpet is in throughout the whole the facility, and the air conditioning is fully repaired. After a long stretch of disruptions, it feels good to have a space that is comfortable and ready to welcome families again.
We are also in the middle of a major reorganization. Every room had to be shifted during the carpet installation, so there is a lot to put back together. At the same time, our donation bin has been a steady source of clothing and essentials, and the Community Closet is filling up quickly. This is wonderful news for local families, but it takes real time and effort to launder, sort, fold, and restock everything. Extra volunteer support is genuinely helpful right now.
The Community Closet is open by appointment for families who need clothing or shoes for their children. We continued taking appointments during the closure, but we are now fully stocked and able to welcome families into the building again.
We are also preparing the Family Market with small household items and baby essentials. This gives families another way to meet immediate needs with dignity and without paperwork.
Looking ahead, our goal is to begin hosting community programming again in the new year. To make that possible, we depend on the support of neighbors and partners who believe in this work.
Below, you will find links to help in the way that fits you best. Every contribution, every hour volunteered, and every shared resource helps TRIBE continue serving local families.
Community closet now open for appointments
The Community Closet at TRIBE is open and ready to welcome families again. With repairs complete and steady donations coming in through the clothing bin, the closet is stocked and appointments are available.
We carry children’s clothing in sizes infant through 14/16, along with children’s shoes and a selection of basic essentials. We only carry children’s sizes. Adult clothing, school uniforms, diapers, and wipes are not available. No ID or paperwork is required to make an appointment.
If a family needs something we do not offer, we keep an updated list of other community partners who provide free children’s clothing.
See other places that offer clothing for children
To visit the Community Closet, families must schedule an appointment so we can prepare the correct sizes and provide enough time for each visit.

Bring Spooky Stroll to Life—Check the Wishlist
This year’s Spooky Stroll will feature fresh ideas and brand-new elements, but with limited resources and ongoing repairs to our space, we aren’t able to build as much as we have in the past. That’s why we’re leaning on our community to help bring it all to life.
Our Amazon Wishlist includes the final touches that will make this year’s event feel complete. From inflatables and decorations to creative supplies, these items will not only help now but can be reused at future TRIBE events and partner programs.
If you’re able, pick something from the list. Everything ships directly to TRIBE, and every single item makes a difference.
Thank you for helping us create something unforgettable for neighborhood families.
get involved behind the scenes
Spooky Stroll isn’t possible without a team of dedicated volunteers behind the scenes. From setting up décor and running activity stations to handing out candy with a smile, there’s a role for everyone. It’s a fun and meaningful way to plug into the community and help create an unforgettable night for local families.
Special Clothing Collection — Now Through October 20
TRIBE’s Community Closet is running low on children’s clothing, and we could use your help. For the month of October, we’re making it easier for families to donate by partnering with Phill the Box. A large metal donation bin has been placed in the grass field next to the preschool, so families can simply drive up and drop items inside, so no need to head up to the 3rd floor.
What We’re Collecting
-
Children’s Clothing & Shoes: All sizes needed most
-
Adult Clothing & Shoes: Women’s, men’s, and baby items welcome during this special drive
-
Accessories: Purses, backpacks, handbags, clutches, tote bags, laptop bags, hats, gloves, ties, scarves, belts, and wallets
-
Seasonal & Household: Halloween costumes and décor, artificial plants, tablecloths, bed and bath linens, and curtains
The bin will only be available until October 20, so don’t wait to clear out those closets. Every bag helps us restock essentials for kids and meet the needs of families in our neighborhood.

TRIBE Facility Update: Progress & Repairs
We’re excited to share some big updates on our space since Hurricane Milton! It’s been a long road to recovery, but things are finally moving forward.
The roof repairs on our historic building are complete—a huge milestone since no other interior fixes could happen while leaks were still a problem. On top of that, the third-floor air conditioning is back up and running!
Next up: the damaged ceiling in the lobby and bathroom is scheduled to be replaced, and new carpet is coming soon for the entire third floor. With these improvements underway, we’re optimistic that TRIBE can start resuming some activities in a limited capacity soon, with more to follow once everything is in place.
This process has taken time, especially with so much storm damage across the community, and we’re incredibly grateful to Seminole Heights United Methodist Church for helping make these repairs possible.
As a reminder, TRIBE has been closed since October due to significant water damage—our third-floor space took in water through windows and doors, parts of the ceiling collapsed, and leaks spread throughout the floor. We've included some photos below to show the extent of the damage we faced. Please take a moment to view these images and see firsthand the challenges we've been working to overcome.
Thanks to a lot of hard work, we’re happy to finally share some progress!

field day magic at seminole heights elementary
Spring Break came early at Seminole Heights Elementary, thanks to TRIBE’s spirited Field Day celebration on Friday, March 14!
Students rotated through 10 lively activity stations, including scooter races, tug-of-war, obstacle courses, parachute play, and the ever-popular Race to Pop. But the biggest hits of the day? The water games—between sponge relays and balloon tosses, it was all smiles and soaked shirts.
Each student received a frozen treat, bracelet, and a cool pair of sunglasses, and TRIBE’s founder, Kiki, hand-painted hundreds of joyful faces throughout the morning.
Teachers were treated too, with soft coolers filled with Spring Break essentials—hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, a koozie, and a few thoughtful extras.
A heartfelt thank-you to Coach Marsh at Seminole Heights for making this event a success—and to the 23 incredible volunteers who brought the energy, encouragement, and teamwork all day long. We couldn't do it without you!

30 Years Strong: Celebrating the Annual Walk to Hillsborough HIgh school
On Friday, January 17, 2025, Seminole Heights Elementary proudly hosted its 30th Annual Walk to Hillsborough, a cherished tradition symbolizing students' commitment to completing their 12-year educational journey. This milestone event also served as a successful fundraiser, raising over $4,000 to support school programs. The procession was once again led by Fire Chief Barbara Tripp of Tampa Fire Rescue, who has been a steadfast supporter of the event. Chief Tripp, a Tampa native and Hillsborough High School alumna, made history as the first female fire chief of Tampa Fire Rescue in June 2021.
TRIBE continued its tradition of enhancing the event by providing color-coordinated sports equipment for each grade level, from pre-K through fifth grade. This generous contribution replenished the school's recess and physical education supplies, ensuring students have the necessary resources for active play throughout the remainder of the school year.Adding to the day's festivities, volunteers from Seminole Heights United Methodist Church welcomed students back with refreshing popsicles, offering a well-earned treat after their walk. This year’s Walk to Hillsborough exemplified the power of community collaboration and dedication, leaving a lasting impact on all participants.

Broward Holiday Shop: A Heartfelt Community Success
This year’s Broward Holiday Shop was a beautiful reminder of what we can accomplish together. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised $1,526 in real money, all donated directly to Broward Elementary. Additionally, students shopped using their hard-earned PAWS bucks, with an incredible $2,341 PAWS bucks collected! This event was truly a team effort, and we want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed, but in particular want to thank:
💝 Gift Donors: Special thanks to Shana Logan, Frank Albert, Yvonne Scalise, Christi Winsor, and the women of Church Women United for helping stock the shop with wonderful gifts!
🙌 Standout Volunteers: Huge appreciation for Cindi Johnson, Cassie Plumridge, Parrish Williams, Jane Brown, and Ann Wiernik for giving their time and energy to ensure everything ran smoothly.
🐱 A Special Tribute: For the second year in a row, Ann Wiernik hand-crocheted adorable stuffed cats for the students. Each one took over four hours to make and brought so much joy to the children who received them!
🏡 Community Support: A big thank you to Valhalla Resale and Boho & Boujie for their contributions that helped make this event a success! 🎉 A Shoutout to Everyone Who Helped!
We know there are many more individuals who played a role in making this event special—whether through donating gifts, wrapping presents, volunteering, or offering support in countless ways. While we can’t list every name, please know that your kindness and generosity did not go unnoticed. Thank you for being part of this magical tradition! From those who donated gifts to those who wrapped presents and helped organize, your kindness created lasting memories for the children and families of Broward Elementary. We are so grateful for your generosity and can’t wait to spread even more holiday cheer next year!
