Hey TRIBE Family,
As we welcome back some of our cherished programs at TRIBE Seminole Heights, I wanted to open up about something that's been weighing on me. Even before our art show in May, I found myself wrestling with a tough decision: stepping away from my role in leading the current version of our program.
The Struggle Behind the Scenes
Why, you ask? Well, it boils down to a couple of big challenges. First off, we've had some issues with volunteer reliability, which, let's face it, can really throw a wrench in the works. Secondly, we faced a significant financial setback. We were fortunate enough to secure some substantial grant funding meant for staff salaries to run our daily programs and reach even more families in our community. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we lost that crucial funding.
Art Show: A Bittersweet Reminder
The art show was a beautiful reminder of the incredible creativity and passion that thrive in our community. However, it also highlighted the need for change. TRIBE has always been about uniting families through enriching experiences, but it's become clear that we need to adapt to keep those experiences reliable and impactful. Our organization is not sustainable if run exclusively by volunteers.
Not Quitting, But Evolving
Now, I want to make one thing clear: this isn't about quitting. It's about recognizing the necessity for change to ensure TRIBE's continued success and ability to serve. My dedication to the well-being of our children and families in Seminole Heights, and to infusing more joy into our community, remains as strong as ever. My focus is now on strategic planning and strengthening TRIBE’s leadership and reimaging how we can best serve the evolving needs of families. A shift will enable us to create a more stable and sustainable TRIBE, which ultimately benefits everyone.
A Personal Loss
On a personal note, this summer I endured a devastating loss with the passing of my beloved Nancy. Those close to me know she was like a mom to me. Her unwavering support and love were a source of strength throughout my journey with TRIBE and in every other area of my life. Her absence has left a void that has made it challenging to move forward with my usual passion.
Moving Forward with Purpose
As we move forward, you'll notice a shift in the approach at TRIBE. While we used to offer 50 activities per week, we'll now focus on occasional class offerings. This change allows me to ensure that each program and workshop is led by individuals who have a deep and vested interest in our community, guaranteeing a higher level of commitment and reliability. Our Community Closet will continue as a vital resource, unchanged by these adjustments. Additionally, our school outreach and community events will remain steadfast, serving as essential pillars of our mission.
I share these challenges not to burden you, but to remain transparent about the hurdles we are facing and how I am trying to move forward despite them. I am grateful for the support and understanding we have received so far. I'm genuinely excited about the direction TRIBE is taking, and I am thankful for those who continue to support it.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
